What have our NEP students been doing?
Throughout lockdown, our fantastic Negotiated Education Programme students have continued to work hard. By using our online learning platform, they have been able to continue to engage with their core subjects, whilst also completing additional work from Skills For Further Learning. At Walton Youth and Community Project, we believe that the physical and mental wellbeing of the young people we work with is vital, and is therefore at the forefront of our regular NEP timetable. During this unusual time, even more time has been allocated in sessions to make sure that the students are receiving the support they need. Whilst also working on English and Maths, the young people have been given wellbeing packs through the post, weekly online activity challenges, time to exercise, group catch up video calls, 1-1 support and a variety of other activities.
Whilst it is important to make sure the young people are supported, they have also been asked to reflect upon how they are able to help and support others. The group decided that they would make phone calls to family or friends that they felt may be lonely or isolated during lockdown.
